Bowlway Lanes won big at this year's Suburban Windy City United States Bowling Congress Open Tournament held at Stardust Lanes in Addison, IL. The four man team won first place in the Team, Doubles, and All Events Handicap Divisions, and had a team member place as high as fifth in the Singles Division. The team included Roger Bos, Norm Grocke, Sean Hargadon and Daryl Rucki Jr. Each bowler hails from Bowlway Lanes - all from Elgin, IL.
"We've known each other for some time now and thought this would be an excellent opportunity to bowl together as a team," said Bowlway Captain Sean Hargadon. "We had immediate chemistry from the first shot and enjoyed the whole experience."
Of course, winning in multiple divisions makes having fun easy, but Hargadon said much of the team's success came down to constant communication. "We kept talking to each other throughout the tournament," he said. "Most of us have similar styles, which made it possible for us to adapt to the changing lanes conditions by informing each other about what was happening on the lanes."
In the Team Handicap Division, Bowlway Lanes shot 2736 (228 average) for first place in the 18 team field. First-place payout was $540. Norb and Friends (Bartlett) shot 2720 (226 average) for second place and the final payout of $360.
In the Doubles Handicap Division, Roger Bos and Daryl Rick Jr. led the 21 team field by posting a 1439 score (239 avg.) cashing out at $286. Henry Clowers (Elgin) and Juan Garza (Carpentersville) finished second with a 1436 (239 avg.) cashing out at $225. And Howard Cohen (Pingree Grove) and Bryan Bylls (Carol Stream) finished third with 1395 (232 avg.) and the final payout at $170.
In the All Events Handicap Division, Roger Bos won the field of 49 bowlers handily with a 2,198 score (244 avg.) earning him $65. The lowest payout was fourth place at $35.
Bowlway Lanes team member Daryl Rucki Jr. also finished 5th in the Handicap Singles Division with a 737 score (245 avg.) in a field of 56 bowlers earning him $91. In addition, he finished 4th in the all Events Handicap Division with a 2,083 score (231 avg.) for an extra $42.50.
